Template for business requirements specification

When creating your first project it is a good idea to start with our best practice template. Use this standard project template as is or change it afterwards to your exact needs by modifying the custom fields.

Follow these steps to copy the template to your project:

  • Start by clicking on "+" next to your project in the left menu. The business requirement template will be copied to this project.
  • Click on "+" next to "Wiki" in the left menu.
  • Click on "Copy wiki".
  • Select "Technology" in the Industry drop down menu.
  • Select "Software Requirement Specification (IEEE 830)".
  • Click "Copy".
  • Click "Specifications" in the left menu.
  • Click "Software Requirement Specification (IEEE 830)".
  • Change the name and click "Save" if necessary.
  • Click "Table of contents" and modify as required.
  • Click "Back" at the top.
  • Click "Custom fields" and modify as required.
  • Click "Back" at the top.
  • Click "Note categories" and modify as required.
  • Click "Back" at the top.
  • Click "Attachment categories" and modify as required.

You have now created a business requirements specification.

Now you are ready to create requirements for each of your business needs in this specification.

For more information about how to use specifications see "Getting Started Guide".

Tip: We recommend creating two specifications:

  • A business requirements specification with requirements regarding the overall business needs written for approval by management
  • A functional requirements specification with detailed requirements written for approval by users with detailed knowledge about each specific requirement.

The business requirements should then be linked to the corresponding functional requirements using the linking function in ReqMan. Go to the detailed requirement page for the requirement you want to link and click "Add requirement link". Then search and select the requirement you want to link to.
