Requirements can be imported into ReqMan by following these steps:
- Log-in to ReqMan.
- Expand your project in the tree menu on the left.
- Expand the Requirement module in the tree menu.
- Click import.
- Select the file containing the requirements you want to import.
- Click upload file.
You are now presented with various options for how the import should behave:
- Target specification for the import.
- Mapping of source fields to target fields.
- Advanced settings for how the table of contents should be created. For example the TOC categories can be read from the file and mapped to the first category found in the existing TOC, you can decide whether new categories should be created if not found and which part of the existing TOC the requirements should be placed in.
- Specify user permission settings if the users are included in the source file and found in the existing user list for the current project.
- Specify how multiple selections for custom fields values should be separated.
For some of these more complex functions our professional services can do the import for you for a small fee.
How to format the import file
The import function supports comma separated files only. You can create a CSV file for example via Excel in a format like shown below with the header being the first row:
- Name, Details
- name 1, details 1
- name 2, details 2
- name 3, details 3
It is recommended to start with a simple import file as the one shown above, but bear in mind that the import supports more sophisticated features and it covers most of the fields that you can define for a requirement.
